Effect:

You show a board with nine slots on it, with an alphabet card in each of the slots, but the word formed by the jumbled letters does not make any sense. 

You remove the cards from the slots and mix them up. 

You take the help of the audience to place the letters in the slots in the order chosen by them. 

When all the cards are placed in the slots, you turn over the board to show that all the letters now form a meaningful word such as CHRISTMAS or BIRTHDAY.
